Anomalous Experience Consultation
Service Description
"Anomalous" experiences (AE) go by many names: exceptional, paranormal, spiritual, unusual, peak, mystical, psi, etc. The term can be applied to a phenomenon which, "is unexpected according to conventional scientific knowledge, but which does not commit the user to any particular type of explanation" (PA, 2015). Some examples of AE include near-death experiences, apparitions, psi, mediumship, out-of-body experiences, precognitive dreams, clairvoyance, etc. People who report AE are often treated as mentally ill, and while some AE show similarities with mental disorders, they are not inherently indicative of illness. In fact, the majority of people who report AE do not have any mental illness (Fach et al., 2013). AE can impact all aspects of wellbeing, both in positive ways and negative ways (Pratte, 2021). For instance, one may think they are going "crazy" because they've been seeing a recently deceased loved one. They want to confide in someone but are afraid of being judged badly. Who can they turn to? When given the right opportunities to be processed thoroughly, anomalous experiences can foster healthy and beneficial changes in the experiencer (Braud, 2010). Holistic Head Health has a subsidiary service called Anomalous Research, Counselling, & Consultation (ARCC). ARCC provides an opportunity to work with your anomalous experiences in a confidential, neutral, and safe setting through one of our three services: consultation, psychotherapy, or case research. To inquire about any of these services, please contact Dr. Pratte via the contact form in the menu bar.
